WOOLSTON JAMMERS

WELCOME TO THE WEBSITE OF WOOLSTON & SHOLING W.I.

WOOLSTON & SHOLING is a friendly Women's Institute. Despite living in a large city we are able to maintain a great sense of community. We enjoy varied speakers, quizzes, walks, outings and companionship throughout the year. We would love to welcome you as a visitor or new member. We were founded in 1985 and 23 years on we still have some original members as well as lots of new ones. We are told we are a friendly group by many people. WE LIKE TO THINK SO!

We are very lucky to live on the south coast. Within a 5 mile radius we have two outstanding country parks, the lovely shore line with all the liners you could wish to see , some wonderful shopping at West Quay in a town renowned for it's lovely parks.

Woolston's most famous landmark is the Itchen Bridge opened in 1977. Before that Woolston  had the Floating  Bridge since 1836. life in Woolston has always been connected with the river, especially shipbuilding at Vosper Thornycroft. Also several small specialist boat builders operate from Wilmot's Yard

SHOLING

Sholing is also known as Spike Island.  This refers to the spikes on Sholing Common that prisoners were chained to in the 19th century while awaiting deportation to Australia. Botany Bay Road runs alongside.
